Heather engages with abstraction as a form of mindfulness practice. Her meditative approach sets the stage for discovery, play, and surprise. As she works, she gives herself permission to adjust and repurpose pieces as they take shape—often tearing previous drawings to pieces to give them new life in the form of textured collage. Her process allows for creative shifts as her work unfolds instinctually. She finds the correlation between a completed work and the percolating thoughts that influenced its evolution can only be made in hindsight. Through the process of working, Heather makes connections between memories or points of emotional resonance that transcend language.
Heather graduated from the University of Utah with a BFA in Painting and Drawing and earned her MFA in Painting from Northern Illinois University.
